VISION

The Youth Ministry at St. John's will empower young people to live an authentic Christian life with a Catholic world view, to lead them to a deeper participation in the life of the Church especially the Sacraments, and to provide opportunities for an ongoing conversion and spiritual growth.

Through the intercession of our patron saints, Bl. John

Paul II and St. Maria Goretti, our hope is that we will reach the lives of young people in a dynamic way that will call them "out of darkness and into his wonderful light"

(1 Peter 2:9).

Bio: Angie has been here at St. John's since 2008 and has been working in parishes with youth since 2002. Her first love is Jesus and her family, but also loves puppies, traveling, and Honduras. She one day hopes to have Gaterade poured on her like a football coach.

bio: Jessica is also the Assistant Director of the program working with Edge. In her spare time, she likes to sleep, eat sushi, and shop at Old Navy. She is currently studying to be a psychologist, specifically for the high school age group.

bio: Jake is the youth ministers husband. Word on the street is he has the best beard on the south side of town. He is really annoyed by forks scraping plates and really loves making his baby boy laugh.

bio: Andie has been on Core since 2011 when she chaperoned her first youth conference with our teens. She is passionate about sharing the lives of the saints with all she meets. She enjoys Diet Coke and long walks on the beach.

bio: Joel is currently studying to take the MCAT. We all feel a little safer having an almost doctor on team. Joel loves to play guitar, chill with Jesus at church, and serve at the Mother Teresa shelter. He can also be found at the 6pm Mass praisin' the Lord strumming his guitar!

Roland Longoria

ROLAND

bio: Roland is the most experienced Core member serving as a Confirmation teacher almost since the beginning of St. John's. He works at Flint Hills and loves spending time with his family. If you need some wisdom or just a good talk, Roland's the man to go to!

Bio: Lisa is a senior at TAMUCC studying Psychology. She has a passion for the Faith and sharing it with others, especially high school youth. A hidden talent of Lisa's is planking, although she might not admit it.

bio: Herbert (aka HR) is our youngest Life Teen Core member and has the coolest car in all of the Core Team. When not crusing in his white Mustang, HR likes to eat cookies, run long distances, and pray.

bio: Rachel is a junior at TAMUCC and also the president of the Newman Club there. She is best known for her excellent turkey impersonation. Next time you see her, ask for the turkey call and be ready to be amazed.

bio: Beronica is a student at TAMUCC and is studying nursing. She loves Jesus, chicken sandwiches, and knock knock jokes. "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Beronica."

bio: Javi is also a junior at TAMUCC and is the most chill person you might ever meet. He is also good at giving high-fives. He is an excellent role model for our middle school guys and loves hanging out at Edge.

bio: Candace joins us from the Life Teen group and is one of our best actors for skits. She loves Jesus, theatre, reading, and Bon Iver.

bio: Val joins us from Monterrey, Mexico and loves praying in Spanish and kickin' it with our fellow Edge kids from Monterrey. She is a freshman at TAMUCC and is active in her sororiety and being a good Catholic witness on her campus.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for all you do as parents/guardians! Even though I don't have children in school yet, I know the pressures the world places on the family each day and how it can be hard to reach pre-teens and teens amidst the chaos.

The Youth Program at St. John the Baptist is here to serve the family in any way possible. My hope is that your pre-teens/teens will be challenged "to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today" as they come to learn more about the Catholic Faith relevant to the youth culture they live in. I also hope they have a lot of fun. :)

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns, questions, or comments. Know that you and your families are in my prayers - please continue to pray for the youth of the parish and for Life Teen and Edge!
